Promoting the Independence and Well-Being of Seniors
Ascension Council on Aging Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of services to help senior citizens live happier, healthier lives. We achieve our mission through the delivery of high-quality home- and community-based care.

What We Offer
Outreach
We offer an initial personal contact to identify potential clients and inform the elderly of existing services.
Information and Assistance
This entails providing current information to clients about services and resources available in the community, including the name, address, phone number, and contact person for the organization.
Congregate Meals
We distribute nutritious and balanced meals in a group setting five days a week to both senior centers. (A minimum of one-third of the RDA is met.)
Recreation
This includes activities such as supervised exercise classes, trips, crafts, and games. We also have speakers on various health subjects, home safety, legal issues, social security, and more.
Medicaid Enrollment
We help file applications for seniors.
Utility Assistance
Our company helps with the payment of utility bills up to three times a year.
Material Aid
Health aides such as wheelchairs, walkers, etc. are loaned out. Our organization also provides or coordinates in the distribution of fans, blankets, smoke detectors, and more as needed.
Med Alert
We provide emergency response systems to the elderly.
Wellness
This includes health screenings and exercises designed to support and/or improve the mental and physical well-being of seniors.
Home-Delivered Meals
Five balanced meals are delivered to eligible homebound seniors.
Transportation
We provide transportation services for the elderly and disabled to senior centers, congregate meal sites, medical appointments, grocery stores, and other social agencies within Ascension Parish.
Telephoning
This is done by contacting individuals through phone on a reoccurring basis to provide support, comfort, and determine physical status.
Homemaker
We offer light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation to homebound senior citizens.
Personal Care Attendant
We provide services for family caregivers of persons who are 60 and over and older individuals caring for persons with developmental disabilities.
Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)
This involves an objective, confidential counseling to seniors with problems or questions about Medicare, Medicaid, and long-term care insurance.
