The Ascension Council on Aging received its charter from the state on November 1, 1972
and was incorporated March 23, 1973. A non-profit agency with a mission to provide directly
or coordinate all services available to the older adult to assist them in remaining self-sufficient.

The Board of Directors consists of fifteen members. This board is the governing body, seeking
and maintaining help for the elderly of Ascension Parish through a staff of administrative personnel
as well as service aides.

Funding Sources: Federal (Older Americans Act): State (Senior Center and Meal Allowance);
Parish (Millage Tax); Department of Transportation and Development; Department of Health and Hospitals;
Department of Social Service; United Way; contracts; individual donations.

The Council operates two full service Senior Centers in Donaldsonville and Gonzales
from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Persons 60 and over are eligible for most services.
